    Plastic Surgery?

The post on tummy tuckage got me curious? Are you any of you mamas planning seriously on having plastic surgery? I have broke my nose 4 times, It was already larger then I would like to begin with, after the breaks it is horrid.

I have wanted a nose job for a long time, but a few things hold me back.

    1) the cost~ there always seems like there are better ways to spend the money

    2) my dd- I wonder what i would be teaching her by altering my body

other than that, I think about it a lot. ( well every time I look in a mirrior lol ( this sounds so shallow! ack!)

How do you feel about plastic surgery, whould you do it if you were me? Would you alter yourself in any way? If you could change one thing would you. Or does it start as a slipper slope, first I get my nose done, then i find somthing else i hate... ect ect?

    Yes [Y] Re: Plastic Surgery?

Oh gosh! I don't think your nose is horrid! But that being said...I personally don't see anything wrong with a little plastic surgery...I've considered it myself with cost being the #1 reason,  My husband's nose broke and was somewhat crooked after a car accident a few years back and he got plastic surgery and it's amazing how much better his self esteem was and that he was actually happy with his whole face again. And he hasn't gotten anymore surgery since.

But what's wrong with getting a little work done so you feel better about yourself? It's not like you are getting DD implants or Angelina Jolie lips done or something LOL! Then *maybe* I'd say that might be the wrong message...Yes [Y]

I don't think it would be wrong at all! Mama, if it something that will make you feel better about yourself I don't think there is any harm in it (especially since you have broken your nose before--so it would be to correct something, ya know)...but that said, I have seen your pics in your gallery and you are very pretty!!!

I think that is where I am at, I think my self esteem would be totally boosted. I am not looking to replace my nose, Just repair, KWIM. I am not going to go all Micheal Jackson LOL!

It just seems selfish to spend that kind of money on myself. It's hard to justify that amount when it doesn't benefit the whole family.
Hmm Maybe if I start saving up my extra money instead of buying more and more carriers! heheheh

    Re: Plastic Surgery?

I think plastic surgery has it place. I have really big eyes. I would love to have my lower lids lifted. The main reason is they get so dry. In the winter my eyes are so blood shot, I look like I have pink eye for about 4 months a year. I am nervous about the pain and how it will turn out.

    Re: Plastic Surgery?

The only reason I would really have a tummy tuck is my csection.  I have the "cliff"  Its really hard for me to be happy when I look in the mirror because I have a noticable cut off and i look a lot heavier than what I actually am.

    Re: Plastic Surgery?

If you dislike your nose I say have it done.  Personnally I think it's expensive enough that I would only have one thing done and stop, so I would pick the thing that bothers me the most.  And it's not like you were born with it - you have broken it.  I have broken mine too, so I know where you're coming from.

It is a difficult conversation that you would be having with your dd when she's older.  But if she were absolutely truely unhappy with something she has and 'fixing' it would improve her self esteem, would you let her do it?  Maybe if you're able to answer that question it may guide you to answer your own question.

If she had somthing like a break I would let her do it, but I also look at her and see perfection so I can never imagine that.
I also think that since it would actually improve my quality of life since sometimes my breathing is affected, that is a plus.

I think I could stop at my nose. There are other things I would love to change, but can live with. KWIM?

    Re: Plastic Surgery?

My mom, sister, and aunt have all had plastic surgery. My mom had a tummy tuck, breast lift, and lipo. My sister had a boob job (twice). My aunt has had her lips, eyes, and nose done. I personally had never considered it. However now that I've had a baby I might consider a boob job after I'm done having kids. So far I'm lucky and my tummy is fine, a little less tight but I think excercise would help a lot.

One thing I've learned through my sis is that you need to research, research, research! Find the best doctor around and don't worry about the cost because if you end up with less then stellar results you will regret it! Also if you are that unhappy about a body part I think you should fix it. Life is too short to be unhappy about something that can be fixed.

    Re: Plastic Surgery?

I know there is a message board out in cyberspace somewhere where women talk about their plastic surgery experiences. Kind of like a babywearing board but for plastic surgery! I don't know what the site is called, I just remember my sister referring to it a lot.

    Re: Plastic Surgery?

Love the Michael Jackson comment! LOL!

    Too, funny!

I have also had my nose broken 3 times.  I really don't like it.  But, honestly, I am a total chicken!  Three babies...no epidurals...but watching TV and that whole hammer and chisel thing...OMG!!!!

If I weren't so afraid I think I'd do it.  However, I look at Jennifer Grey and how she didn't even look like the same person and that scares me a little.  I also worry about my DD...my 16yr old already talks about butt implants (poor baby DON'T got back!)

After all of the years of breastfeeding are done...a little lift might be nice?  I don't know...we are NOT talking Pamela Anderson here!  I have a little pooch going on, but I suppose a sit-up or two might help that!?

eh, can't see me actually doing it though.  However, I AM interested in getting my spider and varicose veins fixed.  That doesn't scare me so much and would make me feel better since I am in FL and spend a lot of time in shorts/capri pants (okay...more capris than shorts these days!)

I say if it bothers you...go for it!!!!!

    Re: Plastic Surgery?

My sis had mini-lipo done on her tummy and thighs. She always had a hang up about the extra skin that the women in our family all have. She says she doesn't regret it at all. She looked AMAZING afterward though she has always been strikingly beautiful. I remember staring at her thinking "something is just different, but she looks so great!" That was before she told me what she had done. I don't think it's a bad idea if you research well and find a good doc. I have thought about having a tummy tuck myself when I am done having children and losing all my weight (I have about 50lbs to go). If I manage to finish losing my weight and keep it off and still have skin hanging everywhere (in my early 30's) I could justify surgery.

Anyhow, I think it's personal. You don't have to tell anyone, including your kids (assuming they are young enough to not remember). Having struggled with obeisity my whole life, I understand how tormenting the mirror can be. I think if you're pretty much mentally healthy, that surgery might be the thing that makes you feel like a queen (once you've healedWink [;)]).

And my sis, hasn't had any other cosmetic surgery since and doesn't feel urged to "fix everything".

    Re: Plastic Surgery?

When I was 18, I never imagined I would ever consider having a plastic surgery and did not understand for the life of me why so many people had them.

I had 4 children since then (6 pregnancies) and my abdomen stretched A LOT every time, and my skin was just unable to take it, so now I find myself with a horrible case of leftover skin. I can't stand to look at myself in the mirror without clothes on, and intimancy + self confidence suffer a lot too (from my part - not because of DH) Basically, all I wish is that I did not look as if I were 65 on my abdomen when I am only 28...  So heck yeah: if I had money I would get a tummy tuck TOMORROW!!!

I am not unhappy about anything else in my body and would not change it. I would not have a face lift when I am older either because aging is natural and beautiful IMO. I just wish I did not look so much older than I really am on part of my body, just because it could not take child bearing so well...

I don't know it either but my girlfriend who just got a tummy tuck is always talking about it.  I am sure there is way more than one and a simple google search would reveal that.  One thing is meeting with a few doctors.  My friend met with 2, both who were highly reccomended. It took months to get the consultation appointments and they were $150 each.  She researched for years before doing it and she seems quite happy with the results after just one week.  She didn't get lipo, only the tuck and muscle repair. The lipo has a longer recovery and causes all the bruising.  She was already a size 0 so no lipo needed, lol.
