    When do you.....

(warning, dumb questions ahead... still workin' on getting into the groove.)

When do you wet your wipes?  Do you store them wet and ready to use (store in what?), or do you keep a squirt bottle with your changing gear, or what?  What do you do on the road?

When do you like to do the laundry?  (Idle curiosity.  I throw everything in the wash while DH is reading bedtime stories and that is working pretty well.)

When do you wash PUL-type covers (if you're not exclusively a pocket user) - throw them into every load, or "sometimes" and when pooed-on?  DD is currently striving to ensure these answers are the same actually (certainly a sign that I should buy more) but I would still like to know.  Hmm [^o)]

(Speaking of.  When will the horrid strained-vegetable output turn into formed toddler turds?  You'd think I'd remember but there wasn't a page in his baby book for it.. ha ha.)

    Re: When do you.....

I wet my wipes in the bathroom sink with warm water, then I have a spray bottle of wipes solution where I do the changes. Afterwards I come and rinse the diaper with the toilet shower and then wash my hands with the water that's already warm from wetting the wipes earlier. On the go I just use a little more wipes solution than usual on dry wipes.

My dd is still having the sticky poops and she's 2.5! I think that she'll be using the toilet before she has big people poop. Oh well...

    Re: When do you.....

I don't actually wet my wipes.  I use a spray bottle to wet the bum then wipe with a dry one.

I do the laundry late at night and then throw the dipes in to dry at bed time...unless I am needing them to pack the diaper bag, which I always do at night.

I washed PUL covers with every load with ds#1.  ds#2 doesn't use PUL's yet!

Ds#1's poop turned to turds around the time he was potty trained.  I thought it must have been the "no rubbing" against the cotton that made it stay in form.  But I dunno....

    Re: When do you.....

I fold all my wipes neatly, like a tri-fold paper towel (I really need to get a life!), then stack them in an old plastic disposible tub.  I mix my H2O/baby shampoo conconction and slowly pour over the wipes.  Can't help you for "on the road" because I'm not there yet.  I have heard that those wet bags come in small sizes especially for wipes.

I have a super limited supply of diapers/covers/pockets and a very short water heater.  I like to do a rinse/rinse at night, then wash in the morning. I wash my PUL covers probably every other day, unless they are poopy.  Which is not as often as it used to be!  I do alternate between changes and hang the one I just took off.  If I used all my covers/pockets during the day, I'll rinse/rinse/wash/rinse at night and hang for use in the morning.  If I'm desperate, I throw the PUL in the dryer.

I know DS1 was making nicely plop-able turds at 18-20 months or so.  DS2 has those sticky-ucky poo (that stink to high heaven!!!).  It is N-A-S-T-Y!

Bridget, you know that the pocket diapers are super easy to sew.  Get your hands on some PUL and some fleece, aplix or touchtape, and it's a done deal!  It is another dangerous addiction, though!

    Re: When do you.....

We are still trying to find what works best, too.

I have been wetting wipes on an as needed basis with water.  I tried a wipee warmer with wipes and water/baby shampoo concoction, but they were really stinky--something in the warmer I think.  So back to just water when we need it.  Tried the spray bottle too, boys didn't like cold on their little tushies!

As for washing, I like to throw in the diapers at bedtime.  They usually make it for a round in the dryer and I can fold in the morning.  We do have enough dipes that we don't have to wash everyday, but found it helps control odors so much more.  We also found with two kids in diapers, we have enough diapers for a load sooner, so I would rather wash before I NEED clean ones.

As for the solidify poop, still waiting here.  DS2 is still nursing, don't know if that is making them soft or what.  Rarely have "shakeable" poops at our house!!  Chase has been starting to use the potty and they are solid in the potty.  So maybe it is just because they are instantly mooshed in the diaper!

    Re: When do you.....

This is not a dumb question.  I am still struggling with the cloth wipes thing, which is why I have not made the switch yet.  I need to just do it, though.

I usually start to wash dipes at night.  I usually end up hanging the fitteds for a while after a spin in the dryer, so I like to have the day to hang them.  I especially like it on days where it is nice enough to hang them outside.

I can not remember when DS's poops changed consistency, but I am sure it was before 18 months.  It took me a while to realize that they were more "adult" though because they tended to get mushed in the diaper.

    HTH.
