Maybe he really does want to be PT.  He woke up at 1:30 am saying he had to go potty.  I checked his diaper.  Dry.  So I put him on the potty and he GOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

Today he told his teachers at church that he needed to go and he went!

Now I've just gotta work on that aim.

It really sounds like he is ready.

I used Cherrios for something to aim into. People that would come over thought it was really weird to have a bowl of Cherrios in the bathroom. It really did help Anders aim better.

That so great Jess!!! My husband actually used to do something similar to what Beth mentioned. He used to put a handful of toliet paper in the toilet and tell Liam that it was an octopus that he should aim at. I thought he (my husband) was a little goofy at first but Liam loved it. "I got the octopus!!" He would yell...

We just did sitting down, and he actually prefers it.  I hope he figures out standing up by middle school...

He uses his hand to push down so he pees right into the water.  It's almost always a no mess solution.

My son is 5 and he stands up now, too, but for the longest time he sat down. We encouraged the sitting down on the potty (backwards facing the wall, actually) after an unfortunate accident early in his potty training...We were out at a restaurant and DS says "I have to go potty!!!" I was so excited and rush him to the bathroom. He says "I have to go POOP!" I sit him on the potty facing me and he proceeds to pee all other me (since I was standing in front of him)...I am soaked with DS's pee and we aren't even half way through with dinner. We were there with my in-laws too...I stood in that bathroom thinking "how am I going to walk back through that restaurant like this?" Oh I was embarrassed! My in-laws were less than gracious. Later my mom suggested sitting him down on the potty backwards...so yes, encourage him to be aware of where his pee is going like Francis suggests, LOL!

I'm so glad someone mentioned the sitting down thing! I have a son and it's gonna be awhile till he's PT (he's 5 months old) but I never had any brothers so I wondered how I would PT him when I don't know what to do! But my hubby sits most of the time (lazy ) unless I'm guessing he's in a public rest room and so I just assumed that was how Logan would learn. Funny!

My son started trying to stand up (messy) because that is what daddy does, but usually sits down now.  His aim is very good when sitting.  He does from time to time stand, though.  Yesterday, for example.  Then I cleaned the toilet seat, the floor, the wall.....  But, at least it was in a potty and not his clothes so I was happy.  Well, mostly happy.  :) He really is a bit short to be standing at the big potty but there are things that are hard to explain to a 2 year old.

Just make sure if they're standing, that toilet seat is up all the way.  There is something to be learned when that seat comes crashing down!
