The belly hugger isn't too hot, it would just be an extra layer around your belly instead of 2 layers of shirts.  I got a small and it's pretty snug on me.  I can't tell you about the fit on a normal person, but if you are pregnant or carry most of your weight past your waist, I would size up.  You pull the belly hugger on like a pair of pants so it's got to get over your hips and thighs before making it to your belly if that makes any sense.
