Attached to Baby

I currently have a Baby Bjorn carrier and a Hotsling, neither are very conducive to breastfeeding, at least not for me.  I am big busted, so the Hotsling doesn't work well for me trying to breastfeed.  It smashes her face into my breast...unless there is a different position I am not familiar with for doing this.  I am looking for suggestions on carriers that would actually work for me to be able to carrier my daugther and breastfeed.

IMO ring slings are the best for breastfeeding. You can adjust them quickly. Most moms find it easier to nurse on the side opposite of the rings. You can use the tail to cover up if needed.

I agree with Beth ring slings have the most adjustability for me and I find it easier to nurse in a RS than any of the other carriers.

Thanks guys!  I haven't tried a ring sling yet.  I was concerned that they are too much work and difficult to work with.  Is this not the case?  Any particular brand that you would recommend over any others?

An unpadded ring sling is the easiest to adjust. Depending on your price range? A simple sling is fabulous and easy to work with. Pretty mama is also a great wide shoulder (it is a fan). If you want to spend a bit more money, oopa is my favorite right now. It is a pleated shoulder which is very comfortable and they are easy to adjust. Plus they look amazing!

Oh, I have looked at some of those Oopa ones and they look gorgeous!!  I'll check them out again as well as the Pretty Mama ones.  Thanks for the input!

The Oopas are gorgeous.  I like the silk ones best, but not sure about that amount of money for one that won't stand the test of time as well as a cotton one.  Maybe I could look into one of those later if I decide I really like a RS and want to do something nice for me What can you tell me about the Zolowear RS?  How is it's quality etc. compared to others?

I can't help you with your sling questions, but in reply to the original posting, I like my Mei Tai best for nursing.  I just loosen it a little and slip him down to the appropriate level.  People can hardly tell you are nursing!  I have also used a wrap to nurse in.  Same concept, loosen the tie and lower the baby a little.  I find it is hard on my back if we do it too long since the baby isn't in the proper position.

Zolos are VERY high quality slings.  I have heard that some are harder to adjust than others.  If you go to the Zolo site, Darien has posted some videos with instructions.  Or, you can buy the tummy to tummy DVD from here at ATB.  If has instructions for pouches, RS, MTs and wraps.

 

ITA with PP, RS were always easiest for me to nurse in.  I also did pretty well in the wrap when DD got older and I was better at wrapping, but with pouches I couldn't really do it until DD could sit on my hip and nurse like that (she'd kind of scrunch down and nurse--it didn't look very comfy, but she didn't complain, LOL).

Thanks for the info about the Zolos.  I really like the patterns of the Zolo, so I might just go with that as my RS. 

Thanks also for the info about the DVD on this site.  Since I am thinking about  different carries, that might just be something useful for me to check out.

Now that my DD and I can use the hip carry I have found that I can nurse her this way in the sling.  Just as you said, it doesn't look all that comfortable for her, but she doesn't complain either.  I guess as long as they can get to it, they are pretty happy   In fact, she had me rolling laughing yesterday.  I was lying on a blanket in the floor nursing her and she started to squirm around (she is starting to scoot around now) and she wound up on all fours face planted into me.  It was hilarious.  It couldn't have been comfortable, but she just didn't want to be still.  Whatyado??  I just laid there laughing at her and every once in a while she would look up at me like, "What's so funny mom??"
