Choosing the sex of your baby?

I know there are books out there on the Shettles method and so forth and some people swear it works, others think its a load of you know what, but I'm curious, I figure you have nothing to lose trying, right? I mean, I want another baby and I'll take either...except I think it would be fun to do this and *see* if it works. My husband doesn't think it will work. Anyway, I have a boy now and I'd really like another one. Except I think I messed up and tried for a girl this first time. I only read one chapter and then tried, resumed reading, and realized I did it wrong...ha! Anyway, has anyone done this and has it worked/not worked?

I don't know about the Shettles method.... but 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' has a good chapter on 'choosing' the baby's sex. Basically (if I remember correctly) male sperm swim faster but don't survive as long as female sperm. So the closer to ovulation you are, the greater chance of a boy. To conceive a girl it was recommended that you try around ovulation, but not actually on it. To me, it translated to 'more patience if you want a girl'.

When I read the chapter, it seems to me that people who are actively TTC should have a higher percentage of boys, since these couples would be much more aware of when they were most fertile.

    Good luck!Smile [:)]

That is exactly what we did. We read "Taking charge of your fertility". It worked, but we are having a 3rd boy. So maybe it works for some, but not all the time. Our first is a girl so I know my dh is capable of making girls, but the boys are way more competitive and keep getting there first (haha).

I read "Taking Charge of your Fertility" too and we wanted a girl and was able to conceive a girl two times!
