    What type/brand of sling/wrap should I buy?

Our daughter is expecting her first baby end of April but will be leaving the states again for Madagascar later summer. Everyone there slings their babies and small children on their backs by wrapping them in a piece of cloth. I want to buy a sling or wrap for my daughter to use before she goes and to take with her. I had researched and decided on the CuddlyWrap and came to this site to make the purchase. When I did here are all these different types/brands of wrapsslings and now I'm more confused than ever. Help!

    Neat!

I did not use a wrap with a very young baby, so I can't speak from personal experience, but it seems like a lot of people like to use a stretchy wrap then, so CuddlyWrap sounds good to me.  :)

If the weather will be very hot, you might want to consider a lightweight gauze wrap like the Gypsy Mama BaliBaby Breeze.  That is the least-hot wrap that I've tried.. I do not know how a stretchy wrap compares.

I wouldn't suggest the cuddlywrap. I loved it when my little one was just born but now it's hardly ever used. It's nice and long but the ends taper and it's not very wide, so it's impossible to do any back wraps, in fact I found the only good use for it was a front hold with the baby chest to chest. I think if you want to have the option to do more carrys I would go with a more veratile wrap such as a didymos or an ellaroo wrap...

I've been using various size sarongs to tie him on my back or in a sling position. But, I would love to get either a didymos or an ellaroo wrap for the versitility of positions (although I have a really long indonesian wrap cloth that lets me do a rucksack carry so it's not a priority). I'm looking now into getting a mei tai.
